THE ISLAND OF WOMEN // BACHELORETTE TRIP TO ISLA MUJERES, MEXCO
ICYMI: I got married in October!
Which gave me the perfect excuse to drag my friends out of the country for one last international hurrah as a bachelorette before I tied the knot. We decided to go to Isla Mujeres, which is perfectly named for the occasion, as it translates to “the island of women.”
Such a destination is not for the faint of heart, though. We had to fly into Cancun, rent a car + drive about an hour to board a cargo ferry in order to even reach the island. [I also highly recommend getting yourself a golf cart once you arrive; it’s so much easier to navigate the narrow streets that way than with a full-size vehicle. Trust me!]
Anyway, our Airbnb was totally worth the trek. We stayed at a gorgeous Spanish style home called Nido de Gallo that backed right up the beach. The pool appeared to blend seamlessly into ocean, which made for some pretty incredible sunrise + sunset swims.
We even found the ultimate hang-spot in a restaurant + bar called Kin Ha. Not only were the food + drinks delicious [and fairly priced!], but they also had kayaks, paddle boards, and rope swings for customers to enjoy free of charge. It was here that we met our favorite waiter, a cancer survivor and former community organizer named Orlando. That precious man happily chased us around the beach all day long to deliver our cocktails while we swam. Go pay him a visit + tip him well!
My next rec comes as a result of stumbling into what ended up being the best massage of my life. You HAVE to check out Mundo Natural Spa at some point during your stay. A one hour full-body massage cost only $40 USD, which seemed wildly underpriced for how heavenly the experience was. My therapist Marisol even braided my hair as part of the service, and I walked away feeling like a brand new woman. We also rebooked the next day. :-)
Finally, some of our most fun moments happened aboard a fishing boat we commissioned for a sunset voyage! For about $500, we got to sail around for 4 hours to take in the island’s most breathtaking spots. If you’re looking to meet + socialize with other vacationers, head over to North Beach [where the other vessels weigh anchor] for some shallow water shenanigans. The sunset will blow your mind, I promise.
